VILDE WARM MILK

The title of Vilde’s latest musical exploration ‘Warm Milk’ sounds like it should be a soothing lullaby, sending you off to sleep like a glass of freshly heated milk at bedtime, but that’s simply not the case. ‘Warm Milk’ isn’t familiar; it’s off kilter and abstract, with spiking guitars, unrelenting drums, and surrealist imagery. On this track, the Australian musician has truly stepped outside of expected pop tropes, more closely recalling the vibrant, rebellious indie-rock of Brooklyn or Glasgow. The track is all about “feeling resonance in the words rather than a specific line of thought”, and the instrumentation serves this same purpose - with the speakers loud enough that deep bass surely could reverberate through the listener’s chest, creating that life affirming experience we so often seek out at live gigs. It’s a sentiment that Vilde clearly had in mind while creating this art-pop single, as he further explains, “I’m in it for the feeling of experiencing what poured out of me afterwards, rather than attempting to express any sort of certainty. If I was certain about something I suppose it’d be better as a novel.” - Hannah Thacker
